I was hovering about 30' off the ground over the center of the runway. Dan was flying his Great Planes Cub and I thought he was landing. As it turned out he was just making a pass down the runway about 30' up. My eye caught the two aircraft converging but it was too late. My Raptor absolutely shredded Dan's Cub. There were pieces of balsa and lots of red Monokote floating down for a long time. The Raptor came down in a heap breaking the usual collection of parts: gear, blades, tailboom, etc. The canopy and fuselage were also badly cut and scraped. And of course there was a bunch of broken ball links and bent pushrods, etc. Nevertheless my Raptor was flying again a few days later. Not so for the Cub. We burned the wreckage at the field.
The nice thing about helicopters is that if you have the parts you can repair them quickly. The whole enterprise is like screwing together steel shelving. Airplanes require cutting, shaping, gluing and sanding and are much more difficult to get back in the air.
