This page contains images, features and general information about the upcoming new version of EL3D.
Scenery...
Well there are lots of enhancements to the scenery design of Ver.2.x.x. I am using a multi layer approach and more detail is added as one gets closer to the landing site.
Lets begin with....
The picture below is an actual NASA photo showing the Apollo 11 landing site. The Apollo 11 Command Module is located near the center of the picture - a little to the right and down. It is facing directly at the camera (from the LM). The landing site is immediately above it.
Now check out below the EL3D version of the site. This (and all other pictures on this page) are actual screen shots from the program.
Now lets zoom in a little closer...
And closer yet....the familiar view of West Crater looms ahead. This is where Version 1.X.X begins the flight.
Virtual Cockpit
The following picture represents a work in progress. I have most of the 3D interior model complete and I am fixing / adding textures. Of course you can see I need to add the controller and other details. Check out the Landing Point Designator (LPD) inscribed on the inner and outer window panes. You have to line your eye up to get the correct angle reported by the computer.
All of the primary flight instruments will work. Many of the switches can also be clicked on. DSKY will be functional. Even the circuit breakers will be detailed!
You can use the Point of View hat or the keyboard to move around / rotate in the cockpit.
And what about other missions? Well the following are some shots from the Apollo 15 mission to Hadley Rille.
The following Version 2.X.X screen shots are a little older but show some of the newer features to be included.
On this last picture you can see the 'halo' effect around the LM shadow. This is due to specular lighting from ground reflection - just like the astronauts observed!
